Review Donkey Kong 64 (Wii U eShop / N64)
He's finally back, but does he still kick some tail?
At the mere mention of Nintendo's first 64-bit console, many of us find it difficult not to get swept up by a wave of nostalgia. We drift through countless memories of flickering TV screens and eye-popping graphics, washing up on the shores of 3D gaming's first bold steps onto a Nintendo platform...

DK and friends have a lot to celebrate lately: the Donkey Kong Land trilogy on Game Boy has trickled onto NSO over the past few weeks; the Donkey Kong...

If you've been a part of the Nintendo gaming community for a while, then chances are you're well acquainted with 'DK Rap', the charming introductory theme tune seen in 1999's Donkey Kong 64. Random Ex-Rare Dev Explains The Origin Of Donkey Kong Country's Name
Take me home, country roads
When you think of the titles of some of Nintendo's most iconic platform games, many of them just make sense as they are: Super Mario World, Kirby's Dream Land, and Donkey Kong Country. It all fits as a naming convention, right? Well, according to ex-Rare dev Kev Bayliss, the inclusion of the word 'Country' in Donkey Kong...
Feature The Spookiest Levels In Non-Spooky Games
Melloween
Aside from costumes, big bowls of sweets and the impending fear that I'm A Celebrity will soon dominate TV again, if there is one thing that you can bank on over Halloween, it's lots, and lots of scary video games. The spooky season has an annoying habit of seeking out those of us — this writer included — who are not the best with...
Feature The Many Faces Of Donkey Kong, Nintendo's 40-Year-Old Gorilla
Four decades of DK
Nintendo’s monkey of manifold mantles – one Donkey Kong, Esq. – recently turned 40. Forty years young and still so vital, but it could be reasonably argued that the ol’ Kongmeister has been undergoing a bit of an identity crisis for most of his lifespan. The man-ape has turned from heel to face to heel more times than The...

Fixes for "issues" with Donkey Kong 64 and more
Emulation might be a bit controversial, but (like it or not) it's arguably played a crucial role in gaming over the past two decades. Beyond fan-made projects and attempts to preserve long-forgotten releases, developers and publishers have also made use of emulators to revive certain releases. With...
News New Letter Details Why Donkey Kong 64's Innovative "Stop 'N' Swop" Feature Was Removed
"We must ask that you remove this feature"
Stop 'N' Swop was undoubtedly one of the N64's biggest mysteries, and even now, we're still learning new things about it decades later. With six coloured eggs and an ice key scattered across Banjo-Kazooie, it was designed as a means of unlocking special content in the sequel, Banjo-Tooie. It was never used...

There was a "look of horror" on his face

About The Game
Donkey Kong 64 is similar to Rareware's other Nintendo 64 platformer series, Banjo Kazooie, but starring Donkey Kong and his friends from the Donkey Kong Country games. Several new features have been added to the game, like being able to change between different characters with different weapons and abilities.
As with many platformer games players will run around the various levels, jumping, swimming, and climbing where needed. Each level has multiple objectives, such as collecting DK's stolen golden bananas, collecting bananas color coded to each of the five characters, and miscellaneous other objects that need to be found to eventually complete 100% of the game. The player starts only being able to choose Donkey Kong, and must rescue the other four characters from the early levels before they can be used. By visiting Cranky Kong in each level more moves can be learned for each character, allowing them to complete challenges and reach sections in levels that were previously inaccessible.

OMG OMG OMG this was my favorite game back in the day!
GOTTA BE ON VIRTUAL CONSOLE NINTENDO
It would be great if they had this made as a remake for 3DS but Nintendo does got a few issues with RareWare. But I do believe it could happen because diddy kong racing was made by Rare and that game got its remake for DS so why not Donkey Kong 64?
How to download the game ?
Bringing more content does not always equals to being a better game. Case in point, Donkey Kong 64.
One of the most boring games I've ever played.
Is this game ever coming to VC?
This is my favorite game of all time.
If we ever actually get a #400 VC game for NA, (since the removed NA VC games don't count); I'd highly doubt DK64 would be it! And I'm not counting today's September 6, 2012 VC game Prince of Persia as the #400 game... I STILL THINK DK64 should've been released months & months ago!
Best. Game. Of. All. Time.
In Cranky's Laboratory is the smartest Ape you've ever seen
but Diddy blows his experiments to smithereens!
There is doom and gloom
when things go boom
in Cranky's Lab!
Weird, one of the screenshots up there appears to be of the testing room.
It was the worst $60 dollars I did not get for Christmas. Just this horrible game. If they cut out all the clown-goofy extras and reinstall the normal cast this game might have been worth something. But Rareware on purposely destroyed it and made "Banjo-Kazooie".
@HolyBlade Ninten"DO" what Cap"can't".
@donkeykong64 Agreed.
One of my favorite N64 games when I was a kid, still play it sometimes to this day. In my opinion, it's the best DK game ever made after DKC1(sorry but DKC2 is overrated in my book).
@RegalSin Boo frick'n hoo, I'll get you a bottle.
Just bought this on wiiU vc at 2 AM November 2nd 2019. I was just playing Luigi's Mansion 3 and for some reason didn't want to carry my Switch upstairs. Alcohol was involved.
DK64 is a great game but they added to much content and multiplayer could have been better( co-op would be cool)!
How can I buy the rom of this game?
when i heard that one of my favorite games i grew up with get's hated, and shat on, it made me angry, sad, frustrated, and depressed. i had a youtube channel and i tried to upload something on youtube, but now i am on a hiatus because i kept hearing my flashbacks of people disrespecting my opinions on purpose, which is why it's hard for me to ignore what people think. i don't feel like uploading anything on youtube right now, i'm sticking with posting my art on deviantart. regardless, i love this game! in my opinion, one of the best n64 games i've ever played, even for a universally acclaimed 1999 n64 game. I'm giving it a 10/10. And i love the DK rap, i don't care what the critics or what seth rogen said about that song.
