This article: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/01/video-weve-spotted-... points out how on the Switch 2 both Joy-Cons now have an IR camera whereas on the current system only the right Joy-Con has the IR Camera.
While I generally enjoy the more gimmicky aspect of Nintendo consoles, I was surprised to see Nintendo double down on this feature. After all, it was used in a very limited selection of titles in Switch 1 which makes me wonder if they have a new plan for it going forward.
Any thoughts on this interesting addition and possibles new uses?
@Mothertroid I checked the Joy-Cons and it appears to just be a plastic seam as it extends through the case, and that seam also has no separate IR camera sensor near the bottom. Even the L Joy-Con has this seam.
If it doesn't work in tandem with a motion Sensor bar, than...We'll have motion pointer cross hair aiming that's every bit as unreliable and messy like it currently is on Switch, for titles like House of the Dead Remake and so much more. No sensor bar, no dice.
And I can't stand the fact that the right Analog stick is once again placed directly below the A,B,X&Y buttons. It always gets in the way, or rubs against my thumb when i try and reach and press them, unless I arch my right hand up away from the right side of the JC, but i can only do that with the included 2 handled Joy-con controller shell attachment. But you shouldn't have to do that.
Maybe they should of just placed the right stick above the 4 face buttons, Wii U game pad-style, which would still allow the right JC to be less wide and compact. But then it might feel awkward pressing the face buttons since they're lower than usual. That's the thing, you can't have a normally placed right analog stick diagonally positioned against the 4 face buttons since it would just pile on the width for the right JC in hand held mode. A 3rd party like Hori will do it, but Nintendo is yet again favouring a smaller compact slim design or size over actual comfort and ergonomics.
And why couldn't they just use the Wii U game pad's analog sticks instead of the jerky short stubby cheap feeling sticks with the current switch Joy'con's? The Switch 2 Joy-con sticks look to be nearly identical to the originals, aside from being a bit larger.
