So, what do we think? Hard to tell how good it actually looks given how compressed the YouTube vid is, hopefully some press images appear relatively soon. Certainly a fairly high level of detail within what we can see. In any case, certainly seems like there's a much, much larger track size. I doubt it's entirely open world given there's an obvious theme here, this would be one track I think, but it is massive
Will be interesting to see what the actual mechanics of the game play out

Switch Physical Collection - 1,381 games (as of January 19th, 2024)

I wouldn't take too much from that footage. It wasn't necessarily a game reveal, it could just be a bit of easy filler.
I think it probably is hinting at 'something bigger', but as there was nothing in there to reveal how the gameplay is different, there's not much to go on. A long open straight road is not much fun, so I'm not expecting what we saw to be very representative.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@Magician
I thought the obvious callback was Kalimari Desert, looks like it has the train track and everything. Also the character design looks kinda like the designs on the Super Mario Kart box art
@gcunit
People said the same about the game footage shown in the original Switch teaser
I hope that store is called 'Yoshi's Cookies'.
I get the feeling you can make a pit stop there or something? Giving it some minor RPG or Adventure element like Diddy Kong Racing?
Excited to finally get a new mario kart.
Visually, if you told me this was switch 1 footage, I would have believed it. Not impressed. I will wait though for the actual game reveal to judge.
Mario Kart is one of my favourite video game series ever, but Mario Kart 8/Deluxe is the most boring in terms of gameplay and racing, so I'm not really excited, especially seeing that Royale-sized circuit.
When the investor meeting happens February 4th, I wonder if we'll get a new Mario Kart name reveal. They typically list their upcoming games, but they could just say Mario Kart (working title).
A NintendoLife user that could talk about Kirby, Pikmin, or Mario RPGs for hours without getting bored!
I think it's way too early to give any sort of definitive opinion; I'm just excited to see a brand-new-from-the-ground-up Mario Kart after over a decade.
In fact the only wish I have, and this might sound like a given, is another soundtrack in the style of the 8 (ie: live-recorded). I absolutely adore that game's music!
@WoomyNNYes I fear so, what Nintendo lacks in power they need to make up for in hype and good first party games. It’s WAY too early to tell what this game will be like.
My theory is that the new mario kart might be structured like the forza horizon games where instead of selected isolated tracks. You have a big open world and drive yourself to new race locations in between races. It would be an interesting evolution of the level design in Mario Kart that would contrast with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Plus there can be a lot of fun just driving around between racing and doing dumb stuff.
@PikminMarioKirby I highly doubt we get anything there. After all, they just called Prime 4 by its original name for years before revealing the Beyond part of the title.
This is definitely open world. Maybe not in the style of Forza Horizon where it's just one huge map, but more like several smaller ones that all share a theme. It's definitely not just a single track, as that wide shot of the highway does not look a closed circuit track.
At least the barriers showing the direction to go are no longer just transparent arrows.
Well, I'm excited in that there might be a new Mario Kart!
If there is open world, that could open up different game play like rally, hide-and-seek, or soccer (like Rocket League).
For DLC, they could have areas on the map where it is "under construction", and then when the DLC becomes available and you purchase it, then the construction site becomes finished / available.
