@NintendoDad Imagine if there was a hub world where you drive around to different highways to play the tracks! You're right, this is Nintendo's chance to add new modes!
Warning: Spicy opinions like "M&Ms are overrated." may leak from this unit!

+1
Even if it is just a "hub world", if done right it could be hilarious.
My kids and I spent way-too-much-time battling each other in the overworlds of games like Disney Universe or Super Mario 3D World. LOL.
More meaningful that it seems, as it's Nintendo replacing the adorable Donkey Kong design by Rare with some kind of SNES DK Jr. Most opinions that I've read today say that the new design is ugly.
@Eel Cool, adorable... or friendly like Mana_Knight said, better than its replacement according to most comments. Besides, this makes Rare's DK family anachronistic in the upcoming Mario Kart entry. Actually, I don't see any of them in the trailer. No Diddy, no Funky and no Dixie is bad news.
Honestly I kinda felt nothing. Like this is objectively hilarious, people have been asking for a new Mario Kart for an entire generation and they show it off like its...nothing.
And I guess this proves how lacking modern graphics are because I could not immediately tell you how this looks different, barring maybe some detail with the objects. I'm sure it is if you really look into it, but first impression is that its really proof graphical upgrades are meaningless. And its also fine, because Mario Kart 8 still looks AWESOME a decade later, so they don't need to impress people either.
I'm looking forward to them showing enough to have an opinion on it next time lol
On first glance it doesn't seem to be that impressive, the graphics don't appear to be that improved and we don't see much novelty in the track design or mechanics (and they're probably intentionally hiding any gameplay mechanics they have) that would make this game look like a noticeable improvement over MK8D. But when you dig deep into the gameplay clips, there's some exciting potential here. The scale of this game is actually kind of mindblowing. That track seems to stretch into infinity and we can see that there's room for up to 24 racers, so just how big is this Mario Kart game? Are the tracks really that long? Is the game more open world? I do want to see where they're going with this, this game looks like it could either be disappointingly samey or ambitiously grand.
I really like the more cartoony art style, although seeing Donkey Kong's movie look in a game for the first time will take some getting used to. It's obviously still way too early to say for sure but the game appears to be going in a bigger direction with bigger characters and bigger tracks. They might be looking into exploring off-road driving.
Can't wait for this new generation to kick off. I haven't been this excited since totk if I'm being honest. A new MK game coming alongside a new system, absolutely wonderful.
I was also thinking they need to do a storyline for this new game.
I wouldn't be judging the graphics too much based on a partial section of a 1080p compressed YouTube video. It certainly looked pretty great but good luck picking out detail

I just realized - this is gonna be the first time Kevin Afghani's voicing Mario for the all the games going forward, isn't it? Not sure if I'm ready for that - even with a year to adjust.
"Now I have an obligation to tag along and clear the area if Luigi so much as glances at a stiletto."
@skywake Shouldn't there be a high-quality version floating around somewhere? The Switch News version of the trailer doesn't appear to be as compressed, and I know people were able to find uncompressed footage of Prime 4, so I would guess you can find something similar for this trailer?
@N00BiSH Don't forget that we'll hear more of his Luigi, Wario and Waluigi, too. It was easier to dismiss Wario getting a new voice in WarioWare: Move It! but since Mario Kart is a game in which you hear voices the whole time, it'll matter a lot more here. I hope Kev's gotten better.
@Dev1024 I mean, I still stand by my opinion that they shouldn't have gotten someone so green to be an all-in-one replacement, given how clunky his Mario and Wario are. He's doing the best he can given how abrupt the transition was, but ain't built like Eric Bauza when it comes to handling four different distinct character voices.
(of course it goes without saying that my issues are less with Kevin and more so the people who hired him, and the poor calls they made regarding this Mario recast situation)
Even though the few seconds of footage we've seen so far didn't look too groundbreaking, I think this new Mario Kart is going to have a lot of interesting changes under the surface. You can't just bump it up to 24 player races and keep the item system the same at this point, 12 players was already super chaotic, so I'm expecting a decent amount of mechanical changes to accommodate for this and I'm curious to see what that's going to be.
Looking past the compression smudgy, there’s a lot of next gen detail going on. More involved lighting, softer curves which shows the higher complexity modeling and animation. The wheels look fantastic and have a sense of energy and friction. The design sensibilities look very animation studio-esque. I like the bespoke Donkey Kong for this game. I’m excited to see a whole truckload of detail yet to be seen from this new MK. Looks amazing. Love the open highway Outrun feel going on. Yeah, it’s gonna be a great generation. Looking forward to more details in short while.

Certainly something to look forward to from Switch 2 in general. So far we've mostly seen the western dev and realism take on how to handle this level of power. Nintendo is going to come in and take an entirely different approach in terms of visual style
Like suddenly having Pixar appear out of nowhere after years of only seeing Transformers movies

@skywake yes, this is pointing to the richness of visual splendor that we know Nintendo has just in waiting. I enjoyed the fidelity of the Wii U and Switch generations, most things looked good, but this is a great leap in tech for their level of craft, no doubts
