Poll: So, What Did You Think Of The Switch 2 Reveal?

This was awesome............ And thank god sombody told Nintendo to simply go with a number, rather than some abstract name for the next generation Switch console...

Switch 2 is exactly what we needed...

I gave it a 7 (although thinking about it more maybe an 8.5 give or take). Very nice looking console, the presentation was okay.

Mario Kart looks good, but 3D Mario would’ve been much better. I also wish we got more than 1 game in the trailer.

We also didn’t really get any hint of how much power it has which would’ve been nice to know.

The Direct is very exciting, but it is so far away! I thought it was February, but turns out I was watching a different region’s trailer

Well technically it was revealed weeks ago with the leaks so nothing surprised me today. I'm more looking forward to seeing the games and the home UI, so April can't come soon enough.

I thought it was as good as it could have been, given the context.

The visual of the Switch "appearing" was captivating! I was mesmerized.

I do appreciate the updated (upgraded?) sound for Switch2. Now it’s more click than snap.

I think it's a 7. I mean, at this point it was nothing we had already been able to gather from the leaks and rumours, to be fair. Getting most of these confirmed was the big plus. Backwards compatibility was the most important feature for me. I am informed, but I am not blown away. So I guess it served its purpose.

Im just glad its finally shown by them.

Switch 2 is my expectation overall so far is great, now i was curios about the Internal Spec how strong it would be.

The new MarioKart is kinda disappointing, I would have preferred something else, but I think the models are giving Mario Wonder-style vibes, which is good!

It's fine, obviously no one is surprised. I just want to see what the launch lineup is at this point.

A solid 7. It really only shows the console itself and Mario Kart 9, so there's not THAT much to go off of, and the leaks did take away from the hype somewhat (which is why I wanted them to flipping stop).

But it's good to finally have it out there. Now for that Direct. April can't be here soon enough.

It was a fine trailer. Nice to finally see it in an official capacity. I'm only really going to get excited once we learn the system specs and the games lineup.

The leaks have absolutely killed any excitement.

Mario Kart is their best selling game so no woder they showed it on the new system.

I mean it was good. Naturally the games are the most exciting thing. I think if the rumor had not prepared me for the idea of a console only reveal I might have been disappointed. As it stands I thought it was as good as I could reasonably expect without really being surprising or having any particular “wow” moment. I scored it an 8.

Bigger. Better. Faster. (I just want) More (games).

Too business-like, I’d say, but then… it’s going to sit next to my TV; Wii U or Wii weren’t beauties either, so whatever.

Would have been more special if it all hadn't been leaked already. Still hype though.

Since the design of the console etc already has been leaked it was just meh. At least they showed a new Mario Kart

I don't know what anyone is supposed to think really. It was a Switch XL and we have only hints of its possible capabilities.

I'm not excited at all, given an April direct and maybe a June/July release, this feels like it is too little, too soon.

Hopefully more information incoming soon to ramp up the interest.

Well, I’m just very happy they revealed it after so many leaks, and I was wrong about a lot of those leaks and didn’t expect the next console to be a stronger and kinda bigger Switch. It looks cool and sleek and it’s very good it’ll be backwards compatible (though they confirmed that way before) but I’m curious about the software besides that new Mario Kart game they showed off, but it’ll probably be months till we know what they plan to release for it.

Woke up to bring my kid to school and go back to bed (I work graveyards), now I am making coffee. About to watch the reveal, but I'm sure it's just a sexier Switch. Which is all I wanted.

It was fine. Confirmation that they are continuing the hybrid design and that BC will work with physical games is great. Not much else to say until we see games and specs.

Very slick trailer. Nothing too mind blowing, but very smooth and a smart way to introduce the new console. Also, love that console design. The black with accents is perfect.

I'm happy to see that they didn't change the console's design just to give us a cheap gimmick like some people wanted. Retrocompatibility confirmed in both formats is also very good. However, I won't be truly excited until they reveal the new games.

At the risk of sounding like I'm being whiny and spoiled, I'm a little underwhelmed. That showed very little, and now we have to wait another 3 months before we get more details. Presumably. I was checking on the original Switch, and that reveal trailer showed nearly nothing, as well. However, at that time, we had never had a Switch, so seeing its different methods of use in various settings was pretty exciting. The Switch 2 trailer was like a hardware showcase without explaining anything. We got a glimpse of a Mario Kart with no gameplay footage or anything much to indicate anything new to the franchise. If I had known nothing from leaks, I would think it's bigger, the Joy-Con snap on instead of sliding, the kickstand is bigger and more adjustable... that's about it. I might have seen the new button, but it wasn't even highlighted. Also, I've just noticed that the button is entirely nondescript in all their media. It is just a blank, square button. Knowing about possible mouse functionality from the leaks, I could guess that is what they were hinting at in the trailer. However, from an ignorant perspective, it just looked like they sat in some new wrist strap attachments, and the sliding along was just a bit of fun style for the video. No other games were shown at all. It seemed like SMBW looked larger and sharper on the Switch 2, but that seems obvious. Yeah. That's it. They do seem to be following the same timeline as the first Switch - a full Direct 3 months after the initial teaser. So, if the timing is the same, then this would release in June 2025. Seems strange, but whatever. Although, I did also notice that the Switch 1 teaser gave a release month of March, which held true. Switch 2 is just scheduled for 2025. Part of me feels like there are a lot of things that are still unfinished for them. But I guess they have been manufacturing hardware, so maybe it's the games? Anyway, super excited. It's just that this feels a bit odd, since it doesn't seem like this will be the revolution that Switch 1 was, and therefore we could have done with more information right off the bat.
Can't wait to preorder this! I hope they do something like with Alarmo, so I can have a better chance at getting one right away.
Oh, the URL of the website for Switch 2 still shows it as "successor." Is it possible that the name is not final? I guess we have a logo. Maybe it's nothing.
The snapping of the Joy-Con is sort of aggressive in the trailer. I wonder about possible pinching of fingers or hands. I'm sure they thought of this though.

Very much like an Apple ad. This will definitely get the customers they’re targeting excited and wanting to hear more. I’m preordering it.

I’m guessing for certain Switch games that aren’t going to work might be Labo, or something built specifically toward the original one.

Ppl saying their going to sell off their Switch 1 should hold off…there’s a chance Nintendo could still implement Switch 1+2 compatibility as a 2nd screen gameplay option.

The only thing new to me (after all of the leaks) was the Joy-Con straps. Not super exciting, but nice to get a confirmation of everything.

Waiting until April is a bummer though.

Oh! And Mario Kart's shadows are way sharper than MK8D which is to be expected but it's an indication to a more modern 3D pipeline.

It did the bare minimum and after do long I'm just relieved the Switch 2 is 100% official

I imagine the tallies are all due to the wealth of known factors before we saw the dang thing. I honestly think that the reveal could have been better received in a different context

@Rainz I’m keeping my OLED model too. I’ll keep certain games on it, but I’ll be moving all my Nintendo titles and ones that’ll benefit from the power. Truthfully, I hope Nintendo has solved the multi Switch problem with this new one, then you’ll want to trade it in.

Can somebody fill me in why backwards compatibility is such a big deal that it’s the only feature mentioned it in this trailer?

I mean it’s nice to have, but personally I play a game for 3 months, finish it, then rarely pick it up again. I guess multiplayer games are a different story, but is BC that important?

It’s a very cool trailer, but 100% spoiled by the leaks, and feels like it does the bare minimum to qualify as the promised “announcement this fiscal year”.

I’d have liked just one teeny little bit of detail that hadn’t been spoiled. Anything. Anything at all

I think the trailer did the job it needed to show "This exists, is a successor, here's some new features to speculate, is backwards compatible; see y'all in April!" It probably would've been more exiting if the leaks didnt take the wind out of its sails, but such is the curse of people anticipating the follow-up of a highly successful console.

Aside from that, I hope folks dont get too caught up on the Mario Kart clip. To me, it looks more like a placeholder than any definitive first look at a 'Mario Kart 9'.

(Also, double-checking the trailer, the video length is 2:22, and you cant convince me that wasnt on purpose)

I say a solid 8. As much as I’ve been anticipating this reveal I don’t think it was time for this. I think they should’ve waited to reveal this or release Xenoblade X, this game is going to be shafted if switch games don’t automatically look better on the super switch (like nes vs snes)

I replay games frequently, and many of us do. Backwards compatibility makes 8years of purchases that much more secure, and with potential fail rates for the original console ensures that all time classics from this generation will not fad away or become prohibitively expensive

I'm the weirdo who hates Mario Kart and mouse control, so so far the Super Nintendo Switch (I STILL refuse to use the Sony name) looks mid and Phil Spencer tier

A positive I think is that it should clearly indicate that this is a separate console to Switch1, with the console actually evolving in the trailer, and of course the name, Switch 2.

Everyone seems to be ignoring the actual substantial, adjustable kickstand, which looks like a wonderful upgrade from that flimsy, barely-attached, plastic strip. I enjoy the option of propping my Switch up on a table and using it as a mini TV, so it pleases me greatly.

It's funny that they actually named it as Nintendo Switch 2, LOL.

Good trailer, bad name, using a 2 in a console name is so generic and boring, I was hopeful they would be a little more creative with the name, because just increasing a number is not Nintendo style.

I'm only interested in the new Pro Controller and if Switch 2 will finally include a motion sensor bar, along with new Pro controller innovations or features, putting aside the Joy-con's new Mouse-like functionality.

As is, blugh. I don't like black controllers or consoles. The aqua blue & orange accents are cute, but you'll never see them if they're attached to the controller grip or Switch 2 in hand held mode. It's essentially all black, and i hate that. Hopefully Nintendo will surprise us with a secondary more Nintendo-y colour scheme, like they did with the neon blue & red joycons for the original Switch's debut.

Looks nice, its a buy. But nothing said new mario kart so i think its just a boost on 8.

@NintendoWife I think the biggest reason people like backwards compatibility is so they don't have a lot of consoles lying around their place. Also, they can sell their Switch 1 and get a Switch 2 for a discount but still keep their old library of games.

They should have waited imo and go full reveal with amazing games along with it. But I guess the leaks forced them to reveal something. This felt like a rushed reveal, especially with 3 months waiting time for the rest.

I voted 5 as in average since I think it was a bit underwhelming and just showed us the minimum. It passed but with no real excitement for me. I will have to wait for the games to get more interested in it but as for now this just looks like an upgraded switch (with the name keeping that trend) which is a tad boring for my tastes. Still have faith that their first party games will be the deal breaker.

It's really hard to understand why they decided to split the presentation at this late in the game.
Just show the whole thing and inform ppl when it's possible to pre-order it. There is absolutely nothing in between now and the summer that would be so special that the Switch1 would get a huge push on the sales so the cannibalise excuse makes no sense.
Also, I reckon the release will be in September. No way they will release it just before the summer season starts.

I'm excited for the launch game reveals! I really hope we Monster Hunter Wilds on this🤞 if it comes to switch 2 it will be an instant buy for me!

I’m just thinking Nintendo is looking at like they have 150M+ Switch 1 devices out. They’re going to find a way to continue to implement its use. As a potential 2nd screen for Switch 2 it could hopefully maintain some value and give ppl a reason to continue using both systems, there are already a ton of Switch systems in households …it’s a massive foundation they can lay into still

I enjoyed the announcement, if well, I was expecting another name, although using 2, well, maybe it was a bit simple, but it is effective in avoiding the incident with Wii 'U'.
Interesting the new addons, the teaser trailer for the new Mario Kart, and well, to wait for more explanation about of all new in this new console.

And I'm sorry for those who got carried away by the leaks and rumors, although I was also bombarded with that stuff all over the internet, I really ignored them as I've always said before, "Until an official announcement, everything else is irrelevant to me, even if it were true."

I think I'll wait until we learn more about it and the games that'll come with it. Not gonna get excited about it

@Rainz it’s one way of looking at it. Nintendo wants everyone to have a Switch unit per person.

I see it as a mobile device, like a smartphone or tablet. Nintendo is going to build the audience and get them to upgrade every 4-5 years. I think the V2 and OLED models will be discontinued in 2027 when the new Lite replaces the original one. I think they might do a Shield TV box too.

Sadly you can tell the big "oh look" moment was supposed to be the sideways connection. Was that a new Mario Kart? Feels like they only recently stopped drip feeding Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and I glossed over it.

Nintendo are dropping the ball with how they've handled the new system so far. Hopefully things pick up when the big games get revealed...

Absolutely hate leakers. Guessing they was originally going to reveal it in March but leakers forced there hands. Now have an agonizing wait for April

Looks nice and backwards compatability is a very good thing. But still a lot of unknowns: price, screen, internal specs and mainly games. Looks promising but still feels a bit incomplete to know how to feel about it.

This trailer felt like Nintendo was obligated to release it so that when they have a regular Switch Direct in the next few weeks, nobody is expecting Switch 2 announcements. Like that was the primary reason for this video to exist. It was completely understated.

Best thing about the direct is that the Switch 2 speculation and rumour discussions are finally over.

Yes! A Shield TV box would be pretty neat from Nintendo. It would make a lot of sense, NVIDIA would adore the opportunity to get their parts in another Nintendo console..NVIDIA Shield was underrated so it could be the perfect marriage to reintroduce Nintendo style

About what I expected. Back in December I commented on here: “I think we’ll get a paltry reconfirmation of a successor’s existence in a direct in February or March, with a larger reveal coming later in the year.“ Which more or less lines up, timeline’s shifted a bit and it wasn’t a direct but I figured it would go like this. Bit of a taste to drum up the buzz and we will get a larger look in April. I’m pumped, thought it was bang on what it needed to be.

I got very big "it's over" vibes. Well, more content incoming I guess.

@tourjeff Right. I mean, I can understand holding off on some stuff, but what we got seems incredibly limited. This is a really minimal teaser. With the first Switch, we had never seen anything like that before. But now, even the general public who don't follow all gaming news have already seen that. This just looks like another one. Different, but another one. What do we have to build hype for 3 months? We can speculate some about Mario Kart. Otherwise, I don't think there's any buzzy new feature to ponder over. Most press stories I've read are using the leaked information to speculate and supplement what we saw. Which is kind of cheating. We don't even know that this thing is more powerful, unless you can infer that from the MK footage. I'm still extremely excited, and I'll still buy it on Day One. But from an analytical perspective, I'm just saying, it feels odd. Nintendo didn't really give us much of anything.

As Nintendo continually tells us: Software sells hardware. It’s a very nice another Switch, and the new Mario Kart looks fun, but it will need a strong first year lineup for me to bite straight away.

I gave it a 9 because i didnt want Nintendo to change much about the design or concept.
No i want to see what its capable of when third partys drop their games.

Feels like it came out without much fanfare in the end...

The presentation was basically what I expected--stuff we already learned about through leaks and no mention of a price point, release date, hardware specs, or games. That said, I was pleasantly surprised to see footage of the new Mario Kart, as well as the announcement of a Nintendo Direct.

It's a but disappointing the Direct isn't till April, but that gives me hope that what I wanted all along is going to happen: a final, Switch-focused Direct in February that gives us the last handful of ports and remasters we've been waiting on like Wind Waker HD, Metroid Prime 2 and 3, Yoshi's Woolly World, and the rumored Kirby Planet Robobot HD. Some smaller, new titles like Rythm Heaven and Mario Baseball would also be welcome.

I assume the new Mario Kart will be thr launch title since that's what they focused on here. I hope it won't be a hard reset and that all the content from MK8 DX is available. "Over 100 race tracks!" is easy marketing, so take the 96 and just build onto it from there. I'm not very impressed with the graphics, though. It just kinda looks like Mario Kart 8... again? I was definitely expecting more, and I don't think a desert track with a lot of fog was the best graphical showcase. Still, I'm excited.

It's like a getting a game title cinematic. Sure, it's nice knowing it's coming and a general idea of when we'll learn more, but it won't feel real until I see the actual direct in April.

The Switch reveal had to show off what it was all about, since it was a new thing, which made for a better trailer.

Its fine.... I missed all the leaks bar one at the start. I couldnt tell that the mario kart was actually the new mario kart in the trailer by not reading anything online before the 1st leak I saw.

Literally nothing that wasn't already leaked, and still no reason for me to consider buying one.

It's like a Switch, but more powerful. Also we put a "2" behind it.
It's feels uninspired like PlayStation and i really miss Iwata and Jokoi and the likes.

I found it largely... superfluous. Can't particularly see the point in it. Nintendo had told us a successor was coming, and this trailer told us very little more. I gave it a 6/10.

Sure, it's called Switch 2 and is pretty much just a Switch, but with mouse controls added. That was it. I'm interested in seeing what anyone does with the mouse controls, though knowing Nintendo gimmicks, it likely won't get much actual implementation. But what what is there in the video to actually be interested or excited by?

Compared to the Switch reveal trailer, there's no comparison. This was just for product design enthusiasts. Where was the fun? The hype? This was so downplayed.

Just some random computer generated images, can't help but feel a little disappointed but will try to focus on the positive, if the leaks were true about its design, this thing is going to be at ps 4 level of power which can only be good (with a little push from upscaling technology down the line) a solid 7 from me

The trailer/teaser was boring.

It was a very bare bones reveal and didn't do anything to excite me. I would've liked more in depth details but I guess that will come later. Overall a bit of a waste of 2 minutes for me. New consoles are always cool though.

It's very clear the Joy-Con can indeed be used as mice now. And I'm certain that "scroll wheel" functionality Sakurai mentioned will also be built into the normal shoulder buttons too, but just via sensing you sliding your index finger and then haptic feedback to simulate the subtle click-click-click as the "wheel" scrolls. It totally makes sense at this point.

Looks great. I think the Switch was the best hardware Nintendo has ever produced, so I’m happy to spend another generation with a bigger, better version.

They look to be extremely uncomfortable when used as a mouse. They need some sort of attachment/grip shell for more bulk on the left and right hand side to make it doable. I'm just eye balling of course.

honestly I expected...more? apart from the size increase it's not a lot to get excited about until we see specs and what it can do.

Average. It does show the device in a snazzy way, but its just a bigger Switch (with a better kickstand if that's your thing). Good that its backwards-compatible though (with physical and digital, but maybe with some caveats). Clever Nintendo, bigger console with bigger joycons means you can't connect your old joycons or peripherals (they do this on purpose). Also, what if there's still joycon-drift? And do we really need a different charger for it?

I am interested in the power, games, price. I won't rush to the shop for the exact same thing. The new Mariokart at first didn't even look new to me.

Nintendo might face the same problem with the Wii u: How do you get people on board? The Wii u looked more different than Switch 2, and it might not work like smartphones where people bought a new version every year. And even that changed now with the current financial crisis. People might hold on longer on their old Switch. Also, don't you guys think it really has magnetic connections for the joycons (with clamps in place)?

This is news? At this point all Nintendo did is confirm certain rumors of the system's design to be true and that's it. It's more of a confirmation of what has been already been revealed over the last few weeks than a true revealing. Very underwhelming--it's basically just a modified, more powerful Switch, which is exactly what I was predicting for years, but Nintendo took far too long to finally lift the curtains. As if there was really anything to hide!

Nintendo didn’t what Nintendo does. (For what seems like a very long time)It is a NES to SNES type iteration which is exactly what I wanted! Nailed the teaser (which is what I consider it until we see games.)

Abysmal. Nothing new, aside from 10 seconds mk9. Nothing we didn't know. They really are milking the Switch out to get that record... I might end up waiting 2 years for the updated model bc of this, just like I did with the Switch.

I voted poor. They didn't reveal anything we didn't already strongly suspect via leaks, and the design of the system itself is fine, but plays things very safely. It is nice to see that being able to use the joycons as mice is seemingly confirmed, and that digital and physical backwards compatibility is confirmed.

Where's the fun, the joy, the creativity? The things we came to love so much of Nintendo?

This teaser felt soulless and corporate-y. It really lacked that touch of "Nintendo magic".

I loved the visual transformation of the Switch 1 into the Switch 2, so just based on what was shown I gave it an 8.

But I would have preferred to see just one more game in order to give the reveal a 9.

Maybe a 6 or a 7 for me. All we really have to go on is the form factor right now. I'm more interested in what's under the hood, especially compared to the original Switch and maybe even the competition. I've heard rumors that it would be on par with the base model PS4, but until Nintendo reveals the specs, that remains to be seen.

Besides, the original Switch's reveal trailer showed all the kinds of things you could do with the system, playing it at home, on the go, etc., and even showcased the kinds of games you could play on it. The reveal for the Switch 2 doesn't really generate that same hype for me.

I can't help but wonder if Nintendo had something bigger and better planned for a proper reveal in the coming months, but the flood of leaks from other parties, especially third-party accessory makers like Genki, forced Nintendo's hand and made them expedite their plans to reveal the console before they were truly ready. Them shadow-dropping the trailer, if only to reveal the form factor, and announcing a Nintendo Direct for April, just says to me that they didn't plan on showcasing it this early.

I mean, don't get me wrong: I'm still going to get the system, but this trailer doesn't generate as much hype for me as the original Switch's reveal trailer did.

Think the console and dock look pretty slick and lush. Happy with an iterative update because Nintendo always delivers on the software side.

The video itself though... didn't add a lot. I can only really compare it to the OG Switch reveal and that was much better. Showed the console in real life settings and had half a dozen games in it. The mario kart footage didn't look notably different to me which is a bit problematic when that is all you show.

Excited for more and hoping we get a last Switch 1 direct in Feb to shore up the release schedule in the run up.

Was hoping it could at least list the specs.

As boring as it gets honestly. Absolutely nothing about it said “wow I can’t wait to get this and try it out day one!” More eh it’ll be nice to have a bit of an upgrade at some point

I’d NORMALLY give it a 7 or 8, but because of the casual Mario Kart 9 reveal, it’s either an 8 or 9 for me.

It was perfect. All the guys at my office are pretty excited for the console, the trailer made a straight point, and it worked.

Haven’t watched it yet. I figure if there’s nothing in it worth announcing it in advance then there’s probably nothing worth seeing. Seems like the biggest news is announcing the Direct we all want to see 10 weeks in advance. But this gets nothing. 😝

If they just revealed it to silence the rumors, that's sad. Seeing as they are showing the games in Februari, they could have just revealed it then. A device means NOTHING without the games, especially if it looks this similar.

@Waveboy Yeah, this seems awkward to use as a mouse. It's so narrow. The surface area on the bottom is small. So, wouldn't you constantly teeter it back and forth, lifting it off the surface and breaking the signal? Plus, you always have to have a surface available for it. And my computer mouse does not work on all surfaces.

Not to mention, we don't actually know that's what these Joy-Con can do. That only felt like a possible tease if you knew about the leaks.

Mario Kart looks like it’s returning to its goofy roots so I’m happy

@johnvboy Indeed as much as I like the idea of the "Super Nintendo Switch" so I can say SNS like SNES, this is for the best after the Wii U and "new" 3DS game confusions.

It's perfectly by the numbers. Nothing awe-inspiring, not even particularly exciting. It just looks nice and, I hope, plays nice as well. 5/10 to me. Mario Kart looks really underwhelming, I really initially thought it was just 8. Hope that's not the final game.

6 for me, not bad - Nice to see it officially but we knew so much of the form factor from leaks but seeing it against the original Switch was nice. They had to do something but clearly aren't ready to talk about it properly, hence the April date for the Direct. I want to know what new features it's got; confirmation on specs; will Switch 1 games run better; what games are we getting? BIG shame that it's not an OLED screen out the gate!!

Just me or does Mario Kart look like the tracks got reeeeally long? That stretch at the end almost looks like a road trip! Oooh, maybe Outrun style?

It had the feel of a reveal that was kind of rushed and released ahead of schedule, because Nintendo had already lost so much of the narrative given the rampant leaks - probably bc that's precisely what happened lol.

That said, I'm super stoked to see it, even if it was essentially bare bones - it's also good to see what was real and what was fake, regarding the leaks, and it's nice to be excited about features without an asterisk of "is this really going to be what it looks like??"

The full presentation on April is going to be the one to watch. Such a long wait, but I can do it. 8/10

For what it was, a teaser, it was great and I loved the whimsy of it. It didn't feel like it was doing anything but having fun.

Within the larger context, after all the leaks and how long we have to wait for the direct, it was underwhelming. Even the reverse "colour on the inside" had been spoiled long before we saw the trailer

I’m obviously looking forward to the console but I thought the reveal was pretty mid. Even ignoring the leaks, there just wasn’t much here. A slightly redesigned Switch with basically no information other than 6 seconds of a new, vanilla looking Mario Kart.

While I’m looking forward to hearing more, I’m not “hyped” at all. I need to see how powerful the system is technically, more games, the draw to what makes this Mario Kart worthy of being a new entry, and hopefully some fun new hardware/software features for the Switch 2 itself.

I guess we’ll have to wait until April. Until then… looks fine, I guess lol.

@the_beaver We've spent our entire lives, with every Nintendo console release, reading comments about how creative this company was. And when it wasn't, the discourse changed to "ok, it's just a console to play games". I don't agree. Nor do I disagree with anyone who criticizes this point. I think it's a valid argument.

Just hoping it has a permanent virtual console, a better Ui, stronger processor, bigger hard drive, a less clunky shop app, multimedia playback/support and customizable Home Screen with folders, wallpapers and such.

I know they said they weren't going to focus on games, but I assumed that meant they would at least give proper focus to the hardware. All they've really done is shown the shape of the thing, which 1) is essentially the same as the old one, and 2) has already been leaked to death.

The reveal felt like it was full of Nintendo’s frustrations from the previous weeks worth of leaks.

I'm indifferent. The only thing I really care about, is that we can finally move past seeing ten different leaks and rumors about it EVERY SINGLE DAY. I'll really only bother to buy one, once my current Switch dies of old age.

The presentation was good, even though all the info was already leaked.

The long wait for the next Direct and the hands-on tour tells me that this reveal was only done to fulfill their obligation to shareholders. They committed to making an announcement before the end of the financial year and did just that and nothing more.

The next Direct (in April) is scheduled right at the start of the upcoming financial year. I get the feeling they just wanted to get the announcement out of the way sooner rather than later, otherwise they would've scheduled that Direct at the end of March.

So I wouldn't be surprised if, in the April Direct, they just focus on the games, but still won't commit to a price or specific release date. It would be wise of them to first await the effect of the supposed Trump tariffs, for one.

The reveal felt as though it wasn't meant to happen today. That Nintendo wanted to do a huge and exciting reveal in like March but leakers over the past few months completely ruined that which resulted in this underwhelming January reveal.

Can’t help but feel it’s about 3 years too late. All the joy I once had for it has long gone. No OLED screen after using Switch OLED is disappointing too.

I’ll probably still buy 1 to support Nintendo but any potential excitement now rests on the launch day games.

I thought it was okay. Happy to see it revealed but I need the April show and see what games get released to feel hyped. A new 3D Mario or Zelda would get me buying day 1 but anything else is a wait and see for me. MK doesn’t scream day 1 as I’ve a short enjoyment span with it nowadays compared to the older days. Have a good time for a week and then move on.

Bezels look huge. I know it's not actual footage, but why render it with such huge bezels if they're actually smaller?

Glad the mouse support is seemingly confirmed. Keyboards already work (at least on OG Switch), now just need a DOS emulator on NSO so we can get Mario Teaches Typing! That's how I learned to type as a lad.

As far as Mario Kart, the trailer looked OK, but the desert/sand tracks were always the most bland looking, to me. Still hoping for an adventure mode like DKR.

Definitely feels right to the point, but I do wish it was a little more lively.

@Rykdrew I don't know you, but I LOVED the Switch concept, it was a perfect combination between a house console and a handheld. It just needed some more power to be able to run the games smoother to be perfect, and that's what they're giving us.
They had to continue that path. It's what we habe been asking them to do.

I’m excited of course it’s a switch 2, it looks like everything I wanted Nintendo to do. I just can’t help but feel leakers just killed any hype nintendo was going to try and build up for the console, the random way they told us the timeframe of when it would be shown off to just kinda throwing this video at us just gave me that impression.

I’m still beyound hyped myself, I can’t wait to see the games it has and to play all the games I still have left on the switch on it.

Eh, nothing surprising. I don’t care about Mario Kart and the Metroid Prime 4 teaser a while back didn’t do much for me so I probably won’t grab this at launch unless there’s something else really exciting announced. I had to grab Switch 1 at launch due to BOTW but I don’t see anything of that caliber coming yet.

I’m so happy though that they went with Switch 2 instead of something bizarre like, I don’t know, Switch Z or Nintendo Gilgamesh or whatever else they were thinking of.

I can only base my opinion on what I’ve seen right now. And that was simply underwhelming at this point, for me personally. But I’m happy for you if you’re all hyped up!

@8bit-Man Exactly. After all, Nintendo said that it would be revealed by the end of the fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025. And since Nintendo usually announces Nintendo Directs a day or two in advance, my guess is they were planning on waiting until the end of March to properly reveal it.

Sadly, we live in a world where instant gratification matters more than patience (basically, "Don't care how, I want it now" instead of "Good things come to those who wait"), so no one wanted to wait for Nintendo to reveal the console on their own terms. That more than likely ended up forcing Nintendo's hand.

Console itself, outstanding - it's a hybrid machine with my all-time fave console's features/library and the visually teased new perks on top, so to rank it any lower I'd have to demote Switch accordingly. Trailer, simply good. Gives us the first look of the real legacy in contrast to all the Credible Source myths and legends of the last few years, refuses to elaborate but promises more to come soon enough. Certainly not something you'd catch me occasionally rewatching eight years on like it's been with all the HA HA HA HA YEAH magic of the October 2016 wowser, but a simple reassertion of what will inevitably claim its place in my gaming hardware arsenal. Likewise, the name is arguably Nintendo's most straightforward since Game Boy Advance but it gets the job done and abbreviates comfortably. Coming from the authors of New Nintendo 3DS, perchance we should be grateful it's not literally called "Nintendo Switch Next Model" to begin with.😈 A mere number addition may sound mundane where even the similar PlayStation nomenclature has branched out to more poetic names like "Vita" in the past, but hell will freeze over before you find me turning down a hybrid console with blackjack and xenoblades over the comparative lack of naming fanciness.

Not even making any guesses about when I really get to hold NS2 in my hands (especially since I would hope to simultaneously invest in a fair bit of external storage to immediately stuff another truckload of my Switch backlog to, including mammoths like Pillars of Eternity, Skyforge and Attack on Titan 2, and that could easily slap another $100 on top), but you bet I'll be following all the relevant game announcements through the year, managing my wishlists and installed Steam Deck titles accordingly.😉😊

Console itself is exactly what I wanted from a Switch successor, right down to the name. As for the reveal though, I was hoping they’d go into at least some depth into the hardware features and some of the software on the console side (home screen, eShop etc.). Did its job of just getting the thing out there but I just wish there was a little more. I guess that’s what they want us to feel though.

Yes, “Super Switch” or “Switch Advance” or whatever would have been fun but you can absolutely guarantee there would be people out there who wouldn’t understand at first blush what the system is with whatever extra word they added, and it would have been even worse if they changed the name altogether. Not worth the confusion when a simple 2 tells you everything you need to know.

It was pretty good. It's just nice knowing this is all real and concrete. Was hoping they'd show another game or two, and Mario Kart, at least from that footage, doesn't look terribly different than 8, but I'm not too worried about it. The close-ups were really nice, I liked the splashes of colour, the Joy-con snaps were cool. A little big for my tastes but I'm sure I'll get used it once it's in my hands.

I don't get announcing this now and holding all the information until April. They fulfilled their "announced by end of FY24" promise, but I doubt this is what most people expected. It's fine for what it is, but that's why it's a 7 for me.

@Res462 The more I think about it the more that this feels like a response to the leaks, like they weren’t planning to show anything until April but had to get something official out before things got even more out of control. Not even building up to the announcement or anything…whole thing is pretty bizarre honestly.

The news probably would have hit better without the leaks. This felt more like an obligation than a true teaser.

Now, I want to see existing games revealed to be “Enhanced for Switch 2” to take advantage of the specs. Games from at least 2 years ago or whenever the internal push started to aim for higher targets happened. Maybe TotK, Splatoon 3, Luigi’s Mansion 2, Princess Peach, Pikmin 4, TTYD, and more along those lines.

I like how it looks but I don't really know much about it, like specs. And it looks like it's cartridge again, so probably will have long load times, which would be disappointing for me.

Wish it wasn't just an teaser and announcing a direct THREE MONTHS AWAY. We've waited so long, they really should've come out with the full showcase either today or in a weeks time, even if the release date is to be further away than we want it to be.

They screwed up with the name and marketing of the Wii U, yes. But there never was any confusion when they named the “Super Nintendo”, “Game Boy Advance” or “3DS”, for example. Those systems paid homage to their predecessors and still made it very clear they were the next big thing.

Hopefully we’ll ever receive some inside information about why they suddenly opted for a numeric name. I’m very curious to hear the reasoning why they decided to break tradition with this one.

It starts with BOTW and moves on to use cases. Then it shows Skyrim. Mario Kart. NBA 2K whatever. Mario Odyssey. Splatoon 2. It also includes the release date.

Yes, there's less to do now with Switch 2 being an iteration and not a reinvention, but it gives a much better taste of what they think we'll be doing with the system. And the Wii U was essentially dead at the time they announced the Switch.

And what was I expecting? Not much. I honestly thought it was too early in the year, so I was surprised they showed it now, with little to no fanfare. Just, here's what it looks like everyone. No mention of the new features/differences, enhancements, type of screen, stuff like that, none of those details are present here. New software is exciting, but they mostly held that back as well.

With all of the well deserved complaints about how uncomfortable the Switch is in handheld mode, they go with almost the same form factor. Incomprehensible stupid. They are on top of the world and could have made any ergonomics they want, but they don't change it. I will be buying 2 of them on launch day.

The trailer felt a bit disingenuous, honestly. Comparing everything to the OG Switch to advertise a larger contrast/upgrade from the previous generation, rather than acknowledging the more recent OLED.

Due to the Switch 2 having bezels, screen looks to be about the same size as the OLED. Not a big boost like the trailer implies. Similar situation for the kickstand enhancements. The OLED has a very good kickstand.

Since they opted to not really show the games (genuinely didn't notice the couple seconds of footage was a new Mario Kart at first), not much to be excited about presently, IMO.

Still nice to get some official confirmation that yes, the new system is a "Switch Pro", and everything that implies.

We already knew it existed. This just confirms it. There isn't really anything to discuss until the Direct in April. So it's been pretty much a non-event so far. Just average.

@8bit-Man Wii U wrote the rule book for what Nintendo shouldn’t do going forwards and rule number one is “don’t give the successor to your hugely popular console a stupid confusing name.”

Everyone gets what a sequential number next to a device name means, whether you’re tech savvy or not. Nobody is confused by what a PS5 is or whether iPhone 16 is different to a 15, so going by the same naming conventions just makes sense. It’s honestly about time they did.

Underwhelming reveal, given the leaks. We didn’t learn much here, other than “it exists” , especially given that it’s an iterative console. Power? Screen (LCD vs OLED)? I dunno, it was all very underwhelming to me…

Average for me. I'm not chronically online or anything but leaks were many and they were also spot on, so no surprises here. Some might say it's not Nintendo's fault that we found out by leaks, but it somewhat is their fault by stretching this reveal for so long.

Still, the system is what I expected because of the leaks, so I'll assume the spec leaks are also accurate. We have a powerful nintendo machine coming and that's awesome. Can't wait for the FFVII remake trilogy reveal for the console ❤️

I honestly don't know what to even think. A vague reveal of a console that looks remarkably like its predecessor doesn't really give me a lot of hype.

I'll wait for game announcements. A new Mario Kart is a great start. Hopefully it'll be a launch title. The Switch and so many Nintendo systems have been hurt by launches with few games of interest for me. A Mario Kart is actually a great way to start, I'll give them credit for that... should it be a launch title.

My hype levels for this reveal was pretty calm compared to the OG Switch but that isn't to say I'm not excited to get my hands on this new console. I'm just glad Nintendo finally got this outta the way after months of rumours.

The first year of Switch 2 is going to be very interesting to see what they have in store. MK 9 seems like a given at this point and maybe Metroid Prime 4 as a cross gen release.

I believe the reveal only happened now because of the massive number of leaks. Definitely a reactive reveal.

I gave it a 10 because it seems to be exactly what I wanted. Do I wish they showed more? Sure, but I was expecting just an announcement of an announcement or something, so anything more than that was welcome.

Looks like a Switch XL or maybe a Switch Pro. The video did nothing to make me think I need this when I already have a Switch. Even when they showed the new Mario Kart I couldn't tell it was a new game, just looked like regular old Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to me.

A 10 from me. Everything I wanted was confirmed: Switch 2 name, a more iterative Switch, looks like the joycons can double as a mouse, Mario Kart as the launch title, sleek looking console overall. Yeah, this was awesome.

I'm mostly surprised it looks so... SIMILAR to the original Switch. I guess I'm still not fully used to the Switch being a hybrid console because I was expecting a lot more variation like they did in the past with non-handheld systems. I suppose it's no different than GB to GBC, or DS to 3DS. Maybe it's a smart idea that they called it Switch 2 to avoid another "Wii U" situation; where people didn't even realize it was the next generation.

It being backwards compatible will also be a big selling point. Loved that about the Wii, DS Lite, and original 3DS. Bigger joycons is a huge plus as well because a lot of people I know say they can't stand using them due to how small they are. Love the magnetic attachment for them too. Much better than having to slide them in. I'm very interested in seeing what more the Switch 2 has to offer.

The device is very beautiful. It’s less…idk industrial? Hard to articulate. Busy, but also curvy, so child friendly? Going from the Wii and 3ds to the Switch felt like Nintendo had embraced the ultra refined styling of the time. I like that this one looks and feels more ergonomic and human friendly. Less austere.

The hardware showcase was very well made, but the leaks kinda killed my excitement a little bit. Thats on me though. Also I wish they showed us something juicier from Mario Kart. MK is supposed to be crazy and fun. Those few seconds felt like MK Tour.

@larryisaman I agree that giving it a confusing name isn’t a smart idea. But just sticking a number to it is the other bad end in my opinion. Too bad they couldn’t find the golden middle way this time around. Glad for you that you’re happy with it though!

It did what it should did and finally reveal the Switch's sucessor to the world, yet it definitely felt different compared to the first Switch trailer...
That trailer was a classic, it showcased people all-around playing like 4 teased games (and Karen of course!) and using the console on different ways, here it looks as if Nintendo took notes from Sony and Microsoft and choose to literally focus on the hardware itself, maybe thinking "ok, since the public already knows about the Switch, it's time to introduce them to the next generation, no need to showcase what they already know it does"

I get it, if they only wanted to focus on the evolution of the hardware itself, I think a better execution was possible, maybe with a person playing on the original Switch and then it suddenly transforms into the succesor in front of their eyes, then you show games that would never run on the Switch 1 (new name huh?) and of course, a first-party tease like Mario Odyssey back in the day (which in this case was a new Mario Kart)...

It seems the Switch 2 still has a lot of secrets under its sleeve, this trailer focused on what has mostly leaked before, but definitely not everything was leaked, what is that second USB port for? or the mysterious C button? Questions that will hopefully be answered later.

Honestly, I'm glad they finally pulled it from behind Nintendo's Iron Curtain and showed it to us, but I was NOT expecting the actual Direct showcasing it to be in April... seems like maybe they just (last 6 months) got done finalizing some details and really weren't going to show us anything in January until all the 3rd party leaks forced their hand. I'm sure we will begin to hear from some devs, sans juicy details, that they are working to bring a (yet unannounced title) to the switch 2. Then in April we will see their games in the Direct showcase.

While I dislike waiting so long for them to announce it won't be available until holiday 2025 for purchase, causing scalpers to have a field day, I am happy to see the final design and excited for what's to come. I'm fine with them going full on iteration route instead of some VR/AR/Wiimote device this gen.

I agree that it’s beneficial if it comes with modernized outputs. Like Wii games over HDMI via Wii U. So let’s see - if Switch 2 offers something over Switch 1 in terms of video quality (for Switch 1 games).

I think Nintendo put it into the trailer to keep sales of Switch 1 games from dropping like a stone. Because, true, many are going to sell their old systems to afford the new one, and if they can’t expect to play their games anymore in a few months they’d surely hold off of buying any from now on.

It's weird to me how so many people say the leaks ruined it for them.....why did you pay attention to the leaks?

Boring, bland, corporate funeral of a presentation, design and name. Simply somber, any fun felt forced and without any novelty or cheer. The leaks did not ruin the novelty or fun; it isn’t and wasn’t there (in the final and leaked design). Realistically the stand will break, and the joy-con rail chip will either snap off or foul up with time. Backwards compatibly is good, it helps persuade folks to upgrade but nothing shown persuades me to move on from my switch lite. Judging from the colors and design, this console is geared towards a mature crowd. And my guess is the price will be too high for what it does. So far the color and design just are not appealing to me at all. The ASUS ROG Ally is more appealing design and color wise. Lastly, the classic finger snap seems to be replaced with a clap. I don’t like it. These are my true thoughts and feelings, not rage bait.

Mario Kart is completely played out as a series. Milked dry as the driest desert. We need a Resident Evil 4 type reinvigoration for the series. Mario Kart on switch is still selling and what on earth will persuade us to buy another MK so soon? Talk about franchise fatigue! I hope Nintendo still understands that it is novel and fun gameplay over graphics. Mario kart needs a BIG change or entire generation break.

As a longtime Nintendo fan really looking forward to the Switch 2 I have to say this video did nothing for me. It was only a 2 minute video but felt longer. I guess it didn’t show me a reason to upgrade. It did show the slight differences than the Switch I already have effectively. Ok, I guess, why would I spend a lot of money getting a slightly larger screen and joy cons? I understand the underlying hardware will be more powerful and should make the transition worth it but I doubt any casual fans will see this and think they need it which is a shame. Perhaps the point is to just get the conversation rolling and let people see it, so mission accomplished. Not Nintendo’s best work in my opinion, but not a disaster either. Hopefully this will sell just as well as the original Switch so Nintendo will keep making great games.

Mouse functionality is good and all. But I'm not having another eight years without proper pen input or proper on-screen pointer functionality.
Switch has been such a huge step back in both of these departments.

I didn't think all that much of the reveal trailer itself. The original Switch reveal was much better. The actual Switch 2 concept and improvements are very good, though. I'm sure when we see more, it will be more exciting.

The reveal highlights a cautious yet hopeful approach — a stark pivot from the Wii to Wii U transition (clearly N learned its lesson). Nintendo is aiming to refine rather than redefine its winning formula. It's a smart business move but yet feels less interesting because many of us are so used to Nintendo revolutionizing hardware in some way (may still come as we learn more). Day 1 purchase for many of us nonetheless. Can't wait.

It was hardly a reveal. We already knew we were getting a successor to the Switch, it looks almost 1:1 like the Switch 1, it didn't show any games besides the obligatory Mario Kart, it didn't detail the power of the system or show examples, it didn't show system features or incentives besides the additional USB port and a kickstand that wasn't absolute trash.

It was a very middling reveal, dare I say even bad. I'm thinking Nintendo should thank their lucky stars that the thing has a very blunt name "Switch 2", otherwise the casual consumer might have thought it was just another Switch model.

5/10, and that's being generous. I'll be waiting for the proper reveal in April because they might as well have not shown anything today at all.

I don't really care much about it. I have to have a reason to buy it. I am also luke warm on Mario Kart. I am more of a fan of Diddy Kong Racing. So that did not do much for me.

Honestly, I don't mean to be dramatic, but it really didn't feel like Nintendo to me. The device does look pretty slick and I like the subtle reds and blues, but I also typically roll my eyes at black consoles. They're not "classy" to me and they feel like lazy modern choices.

I'm still holding out hope that the mouse functionality is as great as it sounds (playing Diablo 4 and Civ VII on SW2 would be great!), and that there are cool new software features like the return of streetpass. But right now, I don't have much to be excited about.

Not to mention I didn't even realize that was a NEW Mario Kart until someone told me. It looks completely unoriginal and not that much better than the already gorgeous MK8. And don't get me started on the name...It's the most unlike Nintendo of all and I'm not a fan. But it's a personal gripe and I get the choice.

Looks great. I'm gonna preorder one as soon as you can but the name is terrible.

Pretty boring. Didn't actually inform us of anything we didn't already know, directly from Nintendo, or show us something we hadn't already seen. I can't even muster any excitement for the brief MK9 reveal, because the only shots they shared were of a very basic and boring looking track. Perfectly level, really? Not even a hint of of a gliding section, antigravity portion, or even a gentle slop? Really bad first impression. And after the abysmal NSO DLC, I'm worried MK9 might wind up being a big step back in quality.

I mean, hopefully that's a groundless anxiety, but I need something to latch onto to keep the faith.

As for the console itself, it's also pretty boring. Why is it (almost) all black? Where's the color? The fun? The NS1 may not have been that colorful, but it's bright Joycons and their asymmetrical look inspired a wave of Switch-themed "patchwork dog" fanart for a reason, and I can't imagine this design inspiring anyone. Seems like they're moving closer to the aesthetic of the Steam Deck and other imitators here, which is definitely the wrong move. Has Nintendo finally forgotten they're a toy company?

Ultimately, I was worried going into the trailer, and just as worried going out. Nintendo has a real bad habit of just... not really putting their heart into platforms the following-up big successes. Of assuming that just because the last console was a hit, so will the next one. That everyone who bought a Wii will also buy a WiiU. I really don't want to see them make that same mistake again.

Not too exciting imo. It's just more black with a bigger screen. And the Mario Kart game looks a tad cleaner than 8 but nothing amazing. Sucks we have to wait a few months for real specs and features. I'll be more excited if they announce that it's OLED.

@Pod I don't get the hype for that either. So people need to have a flat surface in front of them to use that feature? Usually these cool features are only implemented in like 2-3 games then it's ditched completely.

My biggest takeaway is, "That redesign of Donkey Kong in the Mario Kart footage is tripping me out.
I gave the trailer a 7. I mean, I gave it a 7 because I initially compared the trailer to the Switch's reveal back then, and how I felt for that compared to how this one left me feeling, which was... "Cool!" instead of, "WOW!"

I tried to avoid the leaks as much as I could, but I definitely saw a few things over the past several weeks, so there weren't too many surprises. Except for that Mario Kart. Whee! I'm definitely excited. April is a month to look forward to...

Why is there no option for Zero ? So I had to choose One. The Switch 2 is as crap as the leaks.

I liked the reveal, but it felt a bit barebones to me. We saw the console, got some hints at its functionality, and saw one game. I would have liked to have known a little bit more. Perhaps what the home menu looks like when the console is turned on, one more game (or just a tiny bit more footage than what we got), and what some of the buttons do or what is new that we can look forward to. Overall, I liked it! To be fair the only way I could have disliked the reveal would be if they didn't do a reveal at all or showed zero gameplay footage.

Gave it a four. If they had announced and shown it before the internet did it for them I would have given it a six. If they would have shown at least three games for twenty to thirty seconds each I probably would have did a seven.

Without tech specs it's a bigger Switch. Consumers who don't follow gaming news like us will be pretty confused. Waiting to be blown away by the launch lineup, but for now, it's just a bigger Switch

This looked like a rushed AI created “teaser” or better yet appeaser to combat the nonstop rumors and reveals. As I said before this obsession is just awful. Doesn’t anyone do anything else besides think of this system? I was honestly very disappointed with the “official” reveal because it lacks any explanation, technical specifications, or software info besides Mario Kart which I’m very much “over” because they’ve been advertising and selling that game in every which way possible nonstop for years. Even this past holiday was all about Mario Kart. I would be much more excited if this reveal specifically stated screen size, hardware power, and at least 1-2 NEW games. New as in totally new, not sequels. Or perhaps even if it was a sequel, how about Animal Crossing? People have been desperate for a new version of that, or even a remastered version of New Leaf.

They needed footage to show on a small screen. There's a good chance they just made the characters bigger for the trailer, to make sure everyone recognised their famous mascotte immediately.
They probably did studies about how big they could make the heads without alienating people.

This wasn't a reveal. The real reveal is 2 April. This was a tease and a reveal date set so to shut down the absurd rumours and wild speculation. In that context, I gave it a 10 for Outstanding. We got the basic form and a reveal date. That's all I wanted.

Furthermore, anyone believing this would be anything more should not be so gullible in believing the fake leaks. Nintendo NEVER promised any such reveal; only promising an announcement about the successor by the end of March. This tease was it. While it probably came a month or so earlier than hoped, they had no choice to go early.

The first ever, officially numbered, sequel system from Nintendo. I know some are speculating that there won't be a 3, but who knows? Maybe Nintendo understands that you don't toss a familiar name out that "works". "Switch" is still a hot, understood name in videogames, so keep it going. We'll see what happens at the end of its life.

Without games, this was thoroughly underwhelming. Would've been easier to just release a statement that the leaks are real, see you in april.

@johnvboy Switch 2 is fine, but I was REALLY hoping for SUPER Nintendo Switch. Only because that would confirm more power and also still make it easy for people to realize it is in the same family.

I just want to see what games get announced in the April direct. I mostly want a new Mario game or maybe some completely new series. Mario Kart does not get me excited, unless maybe if they really put a unique twist on it or something. I like Mario Kart, but it just seems like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has everything that is needed.

I have plenty to play on switch still. I’ll probably still try to buy a switch 2 right away so I have one when a game comes along that I want to play.

The reveal was super vague. Really just showed a new form factor. Didn’t even demonstrate the new features particularly well. Hints at mouse functionality but if it wasn’t for suggestive leaks, it was hardly obvious.

And a 2 does not do that, the Playstation barand has done this for four generations now. I would suggest gouing for a name is the wrong way to go.

I tried pretty hard to avoid the leaks (and mostly succeeded), and was still pretty unsurprised by the reveal. Disappointed by what I’d consider to be a boring design, too. It feels a bit like the Wii U reveal at this point—a slight iteration of a massively successful console. That said, I think the Switch generally has more staying power than most of what the Wii had to offer, and Nintendo’s in a better position to succeed than it was post-Wii.

Of course, it’ll all come down to the games—are there going to be enough quality exclusives on the Switch 2 to encourage enough people to buy it? Most of the people on this site will buy it regardless (myself included haha), but I really have a hard time believing this console will see even a fraction of the sales the original Switch (Switch 1?) did. Maybe I’ll be surprised though! Again, it all comes down to the games and how fun of an experience it is to play.

And just once more because I can’t get over it: the new design is sooo boring. Nintendo, you’ve always been the fun one!! Give us some color, at least. please don’t become just another Sony or Microsoft, spitting out the same stuff that looks like it was designed by a dude who chugs cans of Monster every morning lol (sorry to the Monster drinkers out there but, ya know)

BAD! Most importantly for 3 reasons! Most people had issue with drifting analogue sticks-and they have NOT changed- the same tiny cheap looking fragile little analogues. Second, the joycons connectors in the console itself look like it can break off easily-terrible design choice, and lastly the console looks extremely cheap-the buttons, the surface, and we don’t even know if it has Oled or not. I know it’s games that matter, but I was honestly quite disappointed. Considering how successful the Switch 1 was and how much money Nintendo made, I would expect more unique design that looks more like a next gen system, not a plain 3D printed generic plastic look. I hope this is the budget option, and really wish Nintendo will have one more that is meant for adult gamers.

A solid 8 if there ever was one and a nice teaser for the full reveal. Switch 1 was a massively successful proof of concept and its great they are doubling down on fixing its imperfections as well as introducing small novelties (like supposed mouse control and the mysterious C-button or sensor). If you find something that works you do not just jump to next thing and do innovation for innovations sake. Nintendo are master craftspeople at heart – their creativity and wackyness always comes accompanied by great attention to detail and quality. Especially the joycons (stick drift an wobbly rail attachment) did not meet that standard and if the teaser is anything to go by, they fixed them. Massively important if you mostly play handheld, like many do. A new Switch that feels more solid with better haptics while playing it, with more power, great games and a massive already existing library to boot is really exiting – use your imagination folks. Can't you already see yourself playing it at the next rooftop party!?

As for the black color and safe design: it has more connection points for peripherals than ever. Nintendo might just go totally bananas with those … and if the current switch is anything to go by, more color options being released over time are a given. And just for comparison: how colorful do you find the standard OLED model?

I do think mouse-functionality will be used A LOT though. Many many strategy games and management sims have released on Switch and enjoyed success there, but will just be much easier to control with a mouse.
Shooters are likely to support it as well.
Not to speak of adventure games of the point-n-click variety, that will benefit from this.

So I definitely welcome a mouse. It's just that... it's old news. And as you say, it requires a flat surface close to you, which is typically what consoles try to shy away from demanding.

@Pod Yeah, outside of reinstating the sensor bar from the Wii, mouse controls are pretty much the next best thing for controlling such games — Mario Maker, House of the Dead, and World of Goo, for me personally!

Nice comparison. But I think there are more Apple people buying new Apple products b/c of the products - oooh look at those new colors, oh look at that big dial, oh look no buttons - than there are Nintendo fans buying products b/c of the hardware.

Now I know Lite has done well b/c that's new hardware and OLED has done well b/c that's new hardware, but both of those play the same software as the Switch, so people already know what those games are. Switch 2 is supposed to be next gen hardware. Well at least I hope it is for all we know right now it is just a Switch XL b/c the only games we know about are Switch games.

So if Switch 2 was just a new Switch XL, or New Switch since we haven't had one of those yet, then yeah fine it was a great quick trailer showing off how cool the new hardware looks that plays all of the same games. But for next gen hardware which will hopefully play next gen games, it was a waste of my time, I don't care what it looks like. Especially as it does just look like a New Switch, barely even a Switch XL.

But I suppose you're correct, the Kool Aid drinking Ninty fans are similar to the Kool Aid drinking Apple fans, so this sufficed. 😂

@rjejr well, Nintendo has between 150-160 million possible Switch 2 buyers. Guess that’s a lot of Kool Aid going around, especially since most of the audience is playing the games while you’re labeling people for the devices they own. Most people are out in the world trying to survive and video games are a luxury. Are you seriously going to insult someone for owning a Switch and not your device? Even an iPhone? Especially if they saved their money for one. I would check that Kool Aid comment at the door. If you play on PC, can I say you’re an anti-social basement dweller? No, that would be just as bad.

I’m highlighting the fact Nintendo is approaching the market (and audience) the same way all the smartphone manufacturers do. This ad targets the overwhelming majority of them, it shows there’s an upgrade coming. Samsung does the same thing with their Galaxy phones, Google with their Pixel, it isn’t unique to Apple. The mainstream audience isn’t going to jump at tech specs anymore, especially when more people game on smartphones, tablets and set top boxes than consoles/PCs. Hell, they should throw Nintendo into the mobility market since they have never called the Switch a console once. There’s been a huge shift with the Switch, the majority who own one says it’s their only dedicated gaming device they have. Those of us who have multiple, we’re in the super minority. Third party developers are going to bring all their big guns this time since they ALL made a lot of money on the current Switch, plus the other consoles and PC aren’t breaking any records with software sales. I don’t know why everyone believe Nintendo has to bring their games to PC, they don’t have to do it. In fact, you’re better off putting your games on Switch since the audience buys just as often as iOS users on the App Store.
