Great Looks, Loaded with Features, Easy on Your Back and on Your Wallet!

A lightweight and feature-rich cello case at a mid-priced level! The sculpted high gloss shell is surprisingly strong, because we added 20% carbon fiber to its fiberglass backbone, increasing strength, yet keeping it light. Smoothly rolling wheels are a great help at the airport or in hallways at music school. Easy to use latches flip out of the way when opening with just the touch of your thumb. Inside, elegant dark gray lining coordinates perfectly with the shell and trim. Firm suspension padding with soft retention pads, clip-style neck and scroll restraints, magnetic closure on the soft cloth bow holders, and an extra large accessory pocket in the top to hold a set of strings and rosin. We've even included a small internal pocket to hold one or two sheet music titles. Backpacking straps and pull handle included. Fits most cello patterns except Montagnana. 4/4 size. Only 7.85 lbs!

SL Super Light Hybrid Mobile Cello Case

Nice case, good price

This is my second Super Light cello case, and I've been quite happy with the first one. In appr. 5 years time, the clasps haven't fallen apart, the seals are still good, the strap holding the cello has not frayed. The "backback" straps are also well designed and comfortable. It's quite light but protects the cello well. Negatives? 1) There is no padding behind the fingerboard, where the cello is attached. I solved this by fitting a piece of padding wedged in the neck of the case. It works well. Without this, I believe the cello would be susceptible to the neck snapping if the case was impacted or fell over. 2) I don't like the wheels. They're too small, and make the case more unstable when the case is upright. I duct tape them over to take care of that. No case is perfect, and this is quite a good one for the money.

Not wild about this case

Although this case appears to be protecting my cello well enough, and has space inside for rosin, endpin stop, and spare strings, I don't really like it much. It is difficult to align the sides to clasp it closed. The straps inside--especially the ones that go around the scroll and endpin-- are awkward to use, and possibly don't hold the instrument as still as they should: I can hear something bumping around inside when walking with it on my back. I do like the backpack straps, which are nicely padded.

Light weight and high quality of a thousand-dollar case for a bargain price

Used it for 5 months.
First, great buying experience. Fedex delivered it in three days. Shar has a warranty, though I have not used it. This beats the eBay cases from unknown sellers with month long estimated delivery dates (and more expensive than the SL500).
Second, it's surprisingly light weight for the price. Love the clasp with single motion opening. The weight and clasps are comparable to our teacher's thousand-$ Accord case. The fit and seal are also tight all around.
Finally, no complaint but three areas we noticed:
1) For strad-shaped cello, shoulders are loose with about 1 inch room. Adding foam padding helped;
2) Music sheet pouch is a little short fit a sheet with pouch lid closed;
3) The interior liner material is an interesting mesh-like material that feels strong and durable, but is not velcro-able. That is, it's not fuzzy enough for velcro to stick to. I used double-sided tape to secure a female velcro to enable added foam padding and a stretto box.
