@Potato-man This would be an amazing idea but balancing that seems like hell especially with small details like rng or even bigger things like points per special which change on a per special and per weapon basis. Combining the things you mentioned, custom weapons could be a challenge mode (it would certainly be a challenge to have all op weapons) I could also see this idea working well in single player campaigns. If we have another roguelike it would be fun to unlock more "points" to put into customizing weapons until you have a Bella with 1000 hp and 100 dmg per shot for example.
I liked SO's rougelite attempt, and think it could be a great start for a mode in S4. My concept is that "Dramatic Days in Orderland" has been completed by Marina, so it is slightly changed and is just for fun rather than being a way to fix the Sanitized Octos. That would also allow them to have an inuniverse reason for why it is so similar I structure without being exactly the same. For example: you don't fight Smollusk, there are more bosses, etc.
For the Challenge mode in S3 I was kinda disappointed they never had a Grizzco Challenge where you can use Grizzco weapons in Turf war. I know technically they can't do that because, they're illegally modded weapons but it would be cool to use them outside of Salmon Run.
I really want for 4 to have new ideas and mechanics for weapons. In 2 they had storing charge for chargers/splatling, vertical flick for rollers, all new specials and 4 new subs and 3rd kits. In 3 all we had new was squid rolls/surge, some new specials and 1 new sub.
I really hope for at least 1 new weapon type, 2 new subs, all new specials, more new maps then returning, and 1 new ranked mode in 4.
I miss Shellendorf Institute and Skipper Pavilion, and I want Ancho-V Games again as well. Considering a past theme, those three might actually be likely to return. But like anyone I want Urchin Underpass and Saltspray Rig from 1 to return, too.
Challenges have been mostly meh in 3 and I really dislike how timed they are. If they come back, they need to just dedicate a whole day or two to one and come up with better ideas for scenarios.
@Xenoblade-Fan I love MakoMart for some reason, so I hope that comes back. I also want Saltspray Rig to return! I have heard the Reef is a Top 3 map in the series, so that one too.
@Potato-man are you a charger main, you were talking about over tuned custom chargers and bringing back moray towers, you’re giving me flashbacks to my days in the moray trenches.
@Xenoblade-Fan although I don't really main certain weapon types, I try to play them all. I LOVE chargers, they are my favorite weapon class. I really like using the Splat Charger and the E-Liter Scope.
On a good day I can rack 10+ splats in Turf War hehehe!
@Xenoblade-Fan Actually I started with 3. I only know about Saltspay because of playing the Battle Doojo on my friend's grandma's WiiU haha! I have tried S2 for 3 rounds but not having S3 features like the Lobby Training Room, certain kits/buffs to certain weapons, and other things made it unfun for me haha. I do plan to finish up the story mode and play OE tho!
Resident Palia fan, as well as a Splatoon fan!

@CaleBoi25 ironically, I 100%ed OE before I finished the base single player campaign. Additionally this was when I used stick controls and the secret final boss was excruciating. Anyway, do you mind if I send you a friend request at some point?
Talking about maps, I know it would pretty significantly change the way it plays, but I think S3’s spawn system could be super interesting on Triggerfish. Choosing whether you land in the lower area or behind the gate on the right while it’s still raised could be an interesting form of commitment, and it would make choosing where you land more interesting than “I want to be kind of to the left.” Eeltail Alley even has a platform on the left than you can only land on from spawn - which is pretty useless, admittedly - but it does get me thinking of interesting possibilities with the S3 spawn system.
You can’t control the way others talk to you, but you can control the way you talk to others.
I think retro stages picks will function a bit like what Mario Kart did with 8's retro tracks on Wii U. Namely that the launch retro stage lineup will only feature stages that weren't retro stages in past entries and then the updates branch out to include some Splatoon 1 stages that were already retro stages. For example:
Launch retro stages
Splatoon 1 - Urchin Underpass, Saltspray Rig
Splatoon 2 - Starfish Mainstage, Shellendorf Institute
I honestly just really want male Idols, like other than gameplay and storymode that's the only thing I want. Give me a squid/octoling boy band. They don't even need lore (Though that's a huge plus) Let them just be dummies who hang out and like to have fun
@Gamergirl4 I think it's the perfect time for Splatoon to have a boy band as well, even though it seems like a longshot considering how prominent female characters are in Splatoon. I'll take a mixed group if I have to, like maybe a female Inkling, a male Inkling, a male Octoling, and a female fish?
I highly doubt Nintendo will use an existing band like Chirpy Chips like some suggest because new idols have been consistent with each sequel and they're highly anticipated. I want to see new stars just because Nintendo always goes all out with their character designs. They still won't disappoint!
