mountain theme is an obvious one they're missing. Since they have a low-gravity setting a full space theme would make sense. Although they are rare in the series, factory theme would be fun and maybe even candy/food just to cover basically everything.

Note that I am also hoping for a full 2D-ification Galaxy game style, but they could have both that and a space theme.

I’ve had no idea there was a thread for a fantasy smm3, I suppose this is my opportunity to mention two particular things. My desires and my past with SMM.

  • my past: so due to me being a relatively new Nintendo gamer and not really being all that invested in Mario until I played SM64 for the first time in my 20s, which was my first finished Mario and instantly one of my favorite games of all time, I didn’t have much reason to buy SMM2 and I still kinda don’t due to me feeling like I “missed out”, so to speak. Like all the culture is behind me, I “missed the boat” on it, in a way. Obviously it’s probably all in my head, and I know there’s still a dedicated community but I still never truly shook this feeling. What also doesn’t help is 1- my lack of time, 2- my lack of familiarity further strengthening the game feeling foreign, 3- my ongoing disinterest in Mario that I’m consistently trying to demolish and become a true fan (I’m ironically more of a wario fan which is extremely funny to think about. Get it together wasn’t good though but that’s besides the point). I’m hella excited to play Sunshine, I feel that game will really help me win me over the Mario franchise. It looks like everything I could ask for.
  • my hopes: I imagine this is a dead-horse of a request but a 3D Mario maker would be great. 2D wise though? They can still add more styles! I really like Super Mario Land and would adore that as a style. I know it might be a little ambitious to ask for more accurate physics so I’ll probably just hope for “good enough” physics, which I hear is what SMM is so we’re good there. Yeah I’m not sure what to add here, I think I also hope, on my own end that I’ll make the effort to invest in this community. Missing out on two community cultures in a row really stings. So many memories I could’ve made. But hey, better late than never right?

Totally 100% coming out in 2026. The date was secretly encoded into the Tokyo stock market exchange.

@FishyS Oh yeah I forgot about mountain, I think that's in the New Super Mario Bros games and Super Mario World, so it's a pretty main. I really like the colors used on that location, would be nice to be able to use it in SMM3!

A NintendoLife user that could talk about Kirby, Pikmin, or Mario RPGs for hours without getting bored!

I'm just moving this over to the Switch 2 forum because why not.

Even though I doubt we will get Mario Maker 3 immediately on Switch 2, I'm sure it will come.

The mouse functionality seems like it will be the biggest potential intrinsic difference (besides extra units/modes/etc) but there is also the potential for larger or more complicated levels if Nintendo allows it.

im also on the team that would love to see a 3d level theme and feel it could be done in an intuitive way, especially based around 3d world since 3d world/land had a lot simpler geometric environments for the most part (but having skins/backgrounds/music for other games would be cool)

when it comes to 2d level creation one thing i would like is to be able to mix and match backdrops and music between themes, like for example you could use the cave theme but with the backdrop for the outdoor area and music from another theme.

another 2d mode thing i would love to see would be more options when it comes to the size/shape of the play area alongside the horizontal/vertical choices, for example one which is only one screen high but twice as long.

when it comes to world maps it would be interesting to have some other themes for that and also maybe even let you use one really big map with multiple tile types so you could go for something along the lines of mario world or NSMBU
