I bought this case to replace a cheap lightweight case that I've used for about 15 years but on which the material of the pocket is finally giving out. I chose this model because the outside pocket is bigger. I don't think I'll use this case. I don't think the violin is a safe inside--the material seems rougher and there's no padding. It is as light as advertised and it looks okay.
Good: reasonable priced (when on sale), included backpack traps, lightweight easy to carry, velvet-like case interior looking luxurious for kids.
Not too good: very unbalanced case, top heavy, especially when opened; easy to topple backward so be careful when your kid puts the violin in.
Need improvement: 1) the violin blanket is of cheap material, thin nylon sheet, with poorly stitched trim, which could scratch your kid's violin. 2) case push-lock is not of good quality, occasionally gets stuck. Lock-latch is stapled loosely onto the case flap. Lock probably will malfunction soon!
I needed a good lightweight violin case, and this has surpassed my expectations. It has good support, a big compartment that fits my shoulder rest, holds two bows, and is nice looking. I bought it on sale, and it cost me only $65 with tax and shipping. Amazing!!!
I have purchased 6 of these cases for my students and they are great! Exactly what I want and expect for a case under $100. Lightweight and makes my students feel fancy because of how pretty the inside is. However, purchasing this case through Shar's website is always a nightmare. The website glitches and I refresh the page multiple times and sometimes the "add to cart" button simply does not work. Awkward.
This foam case is very lightweight. It has a compartment for accessories and room for a shoulder rest. I would recommend this for beginner and intermediate students.
