@MrCarlos46
And also, with more power for Switch 2, I really hope the developers will use the right amount size for selling their games.
I don't want to find any excuses by using very low GB size cartridge and force us to download the rest of the game and the game is unplayable without downloading the rest of the data.
This is the excuses that I hate from Switch and made me choosing the PS4 / PS5 version for the same games to get full games in disc.
But even the developer can be cheap out on any consoles like Pathea for their game My Time at Sandrock by releasing half games on Switch and even on PS4 / PS5 / XBOX with higher GB capacity Blu Ray disc.

Nintendo will finally have the luxury of being able to give the older machine an OTA update so it can give a sensible message when you put a new cartridge in, so won't have to rely on them being a different physical shape, or anything like that.

Maybe this also has something to do with how the Switch 2 will use the same base OS as the Switch.

Forget game carts for a moment: what are the boxes gonna look like? I hope they go back to more squared boxes like they did for DS/3DS games given the current situation feels like a waste of vertical space. I also hope that the spines are more stylized and unique. I don't have a lot of physical Switch games and a small part of that is because I don't wanna have to look at a boring wall of red.

@N00BiSH I think box dimensions will be bigger than Switch game boxes to differentiate.

Game boxes for every generation of Nintendo consoles used the same type of spine for the corresponding generation, so that doesn’t seem to change.

@MrCarlos46 I mean, yeah, but there was less rigidness in terms of spine decoration. Devs could either stick with simple text or have a bit of fun with the format, which helped make them easier to identify even from a distance. Now it's just a lot more uniform and a lot less interesting to look at.

@N00BiSH It’s a mess if everything is the same. That’s something I wanna see change for Switch 2 game boxes. Like at least put the game’s logo vertically.

The way the text was done for the spine was also different on Switch for Japan, North America, Europe and Australia. In Japan and North America they put the title after the Switch logo with the Nintendo Switch font. For Europe and Australia they center the text and use a different font. Not sure why they do this.

I for one really appreciate the box sizes we have now and am not looking forward to the larger box sizes being rumoured for the next console.

Given the miniscule cart sizes being used and the widely adopted approach of cutting down on the use of plastics across the retail sector for environmental reasons, this potential move seems nonsensical.

Another factor is the lack of storage space many people have available to them, myself included, with increasing numbers renting or living in small apartments in many countries.

For these reasons, if they're the same size or slightly smaller, I'll be very happy.

As for the spines, as long as the text is clear, then I'll go along with whatever else they have planned but people should at least be able to read the title from a reasonable distance, otherwise it simply won't fulfil its purpose. A logo and plain text therefore seems like a reasonable compromise, offering both character and practicality.

@Jalex_64 I think the reason for changing the dimensions could be to make it less confusing for parents who want to get their kids Switch games and not get them a Switch 2 game by mistake if they don’t have a Switch 2.

Personally I'd like to see the boxes be a bit smaller, maybe like the size of PS Vita game boxes, but of course anyone whose main concern is making them stand out on store shelves won't want that.

@MrCarlos46 It's a fair point. I don't mind them changing the dimensions if they take up the same area of space. However, the color alone should really be enough to differentiate them from Switch boxes. It seems to have worked reasonably well for the PS4 and PS5 with their Blu-ray style cases, so I see no reason why it can't work for Switch 2.

@Jalex_64 Wait. PS4 and PS5 cases are the same color like how Xbox One and Xbox Series X cases are pretty similar.

The cases, yes but the color scheme for the inserts is very different, with the black and white PS5 logo at the top in place of the blue and white PS4 logo making them distinct from one another, which was my point. If this approach is replicated for Switch 2, I don't believe there should be any confusion.

@MrCarlos46 Sounds good to me, though this logo would likely be at the top for European releases, with the title in the centre.

It seemed to work for Gamecube, making each box that much more distinct from another. With the addition of the title in plain text, it would be a great compromise that provides clarity. Not every game's logo is easy to read from a reasonable distance, after all and the Switch boxes at least provided that much.

As for colors, it wouldn't surprise me if they inverted the current palette, having a white insert with red and black text and a bold, uniquely shaped number two in the logo, so there's minimal room for confusion. It definitely needs some red in there because for me, blue and purple have never really been colors that match Nintendo's positive outlook and fun, vibrant games. And any other colors would just seem a little odd at this point in Nintendo's history.

So something like Switch 2 logo at the top, game logo in the center, but this time Japan, North America, South Korea and Hong Kong/Taiwan also do the same as Europe?

Something close to the spines of Wii and Wii U games, I see. Red is Nintendo’s signature color as well, so it’s unlikely they’ll ditch it again for another future console.

The box size for the Switch 2 itself came up to my head. Are we gonna see the box be the same dimensions as the current Switch/Switch OLED box or see something bigger?

I'll only accept a bigger size if they actually make good use of the space. The current reversible cover art is nice, but I'd like to see at least a few more extras or feelies.

@N00BiSH If the boxes are gonna be bigger, hopefully it could also let them add text in English, French and Spanish for the NA covers and use that for the US, Canada, Mexico and Latin America (basically unifying the covers) similar to how it happened back with Wii and Wii U games instead of making separate versions with English/Spanish for the US and Latin America, English/French for Canada, and Spanish/English for Mexico.

Mexico uses their own rating system however, so any games being sold there would have to have a sticker of the Mexican rating on the case overlapping the ESRB ratings (which would be in English and French if the NA covers get unified once again).

This also comes from seeing the box for Nintendo Switch Sports do something similar to what I said.
